Already when we were building we were thinking about a pond. Our house feels like a cottage setting, but is missing water. So why not build the water in. Many of these ponds exist in Europe, including public pools, and some have been built in North America, including in the wintery climes of Ontario and Quebec. Essentially there is a swimming area, separated by a wall from an area of gravel and plants which act as a giant filterbed to allow beneficial bacteria to clean the water – all within a rubber liner. No chlorine, a slow pumping movement of water through the gravel and over a waterflow.. voila .. a natural swimming pond.
